WEST WALES RAIDERS ANNOUNCE THEIR CAPTAIN FOR THE 2019 SEASON

West Wales Raiders are pleased to announce that Ashley Bateman will be the captain for the 2019 Betfred League 1 season.

Bateman had a stint last season at league 1 rivals Coventry Bears but decided this season that he wanted to come back and play his rugby league in Wales.

Ash spoke about his new appointment as captain “I was honoured when Kim asked me to be captain. We got a good mix of players here and everyone has bought into the way the club and Kim wants to go. I’m having a great preseason and I think we can make massive improvements this year. I’m really looking forward to working with Kim and leading the boys through the season and can’t wait to get the league started and show what we can do as a club this year.”

Raiders head coach Kim Williams added “The appointment of Ash as our Captain for 2019 was an easy decision for me to make as he has been our stand-out leader since day one of pre-season training. He is not willing to accept poor standards from other players and he has an excellent work ethic to back up his words. I believe he will inspire our young players to greater heights throughout the season and I am looking forward to seeing him further develop as a leader as the year progresses.
