Over the past 18 months the club has looked at ways of growing the club and continuing the business plan set out by the board. One of the many areas we wanted to work on and develop was our very own wheelchair rugby league team.
In our plan we wanted to duplicate what North Wales Crusaders have done so well and help strengthen the game both on a club and international level.
After talks with Mark Turner and his team they decided to the best option was to stay in Ebba Vale and create their own side with the support of Wales Rugby League, this was something that we wanted to support with and help as much as possible.
With the current uncertain times and difficulties for all sporting teams Mark re-contacted the club to discuss ways of growing the wheelchair game in south & west Wales by using the Raiders brand.
Club CEO Peter Tiffin added “This is one of the club’s strategies that I’m very happy to get over the start line and look forward to working with a group of extraordinary people. It’s something we have been open about as a major part of our business plan. I think there will be some quality fixtures between West Wales Raiders & North Wales Crusaders in the future and this can only create more competition for places at international level. Our aim is not only to create our very own wheelchair side but to work with Wales rugby league to build more teams and to have bigger participation and competitions whilst keeping the exposure as highs as possible. “
