MEET THE BOARD – GENERAL MANAGER RICHARD STEBBING

Fourth member on our new segment of “MEET THE BOARD” is club General Manager Richard Stebbing.

Richard joined the West Wales Raiders in 2020 after 12 months of creating a connection with his team of the Royal Logistic Corps RL. He had been a fan and had participated many a Raiders home game over the years, he even brought his RLC squad to Stebonheath for the Aubrey Donne Memorial Cup fixture.

We caught up with Richard on his position with the army, how the partnership between Raiders and the Army is working plus his personal goals with the club.

“In 2019 I started a partnership with West Wales Raiders and the Army Community team I was involved with, Royal Logistic Corps Rugby League. The Raiders support was instrumental in helping RLC RL restructure our committee and helped grow the sport at a continuity level within the Army for The Royal Logistic Corps. I also have had a great friendship with owner and chairman Andrew Thorne through the both of us working in the Army.

When I was offered the opportunity to come on board by Andrew & Peter as the clubs General Manger and have a place on the board, it was an opportunity I could not pass on. To work with the club, the team and the whole Raiders family is a great privilege. I have served in the forces for 23 years and have played a number of sports including rugby league throughout my career. Most recently I have been involved in the Management of RL in the forces including the Army Rugby League Women’s team, who had the most incredible 2019 season winning the Challenge Shield. This is something I want to support the Raiders with and I’m sure it can be done and at a huge level for the club.

I am really looking forward to the future with the Raiders especially more recently with all the work that is going on behind the scenes. Continuing to build a successful brand on and off the field in particular is a challenge I am thorouhghly looking forward to.

To build on from the business plan set out by Andrew & Peter is the priority currently, I’m excited to being a part of an already successful model, helping to be as professional on the field as we can be off it with not only our first team but every side we have connected through our pathway.
